A large and uncommon view of the River Avon with men standing on the banks in the fore ground, ship in the river, a group of buildings in the background and smoke emanating from the shore on the right. Antoine Benoist (c. 1721-1770) was a French drawing master and engraver born in Soissons but worked in London for his entire career. Thomas Smith of Derby (1720-1767) was a British painter and draughtsman and the father of J.R, Smith. |
