Signed and titled in pencil underneath print. On the back of the frame, written in pen: 'Given to Commander R.V. de Halpert R.N. by the artist W. Monk. R.E. 1917' Design for the 1918 London Almanack. William Monk (1863 -1937) was a painter and etcher of architectural subjects. Born at Chester. Studied at the Antwerp Academy. Exhibited at the R.A., R.E., I.S., and with the Society of Graver Printers in Colour. Electer A.R.E. 1894, R.E. 1899. Executed subjects in Venice and New York. Lived in London and died on 8th April 1937 aged 73. |
