A bustling street scene with pedestrians and carriages. The view depicts the western end of Aldgate with the beginnings of Fenchurch Street and Leadenhall Street. Aldgate Pump can be clearly seen and behind it the premises of the Cabinet Makers Society [above the shop of the cabinet maker William Thurnell at 71 Leadenhall Street]. Originally produced for Shepherd's part-work series "London and its Environs in the Nineteenth Century" (London 1829-1832)
