Notes A bird-eye's view of Amsterdam, after Anthonisz.'s plan of the city from 1544. Featuring an panorama of the city and harbour below the title. This view is one of the oldest views and plans of Amsterdam.

This plate was published in Pontanus's history of Amsterdam, "Rerum et urbis Amstelodamensium" first published in Latin in 1611 and later translated to Dutch in 1614. It also appeared in Jodocus Hondius' "Harvesten Privilegien Willekeuren ende Ordonnantien der Stadt Aemstelredam" in 1613.

Cornelis Anthonisz. Theunissen (c. 1505-1553) was a Dutch painter, printmaker and publisher from Amsterdam. He was the grandson of Jacob Cornelisz van Oostsanen. He produced many fine woodcut portraits, as well as several witty allegorical and probably moralising prints.

Condition: Trimmed within plate mark, and close to image to left. Vertical folds. Printer's crease to centre. Slight overall time toning. Laid to another sheet of old paper. False margin on right and repaired tear lower right.
