Notes Plate eight of Bourne's Drawings of the London & Birmingham Railway, London, Bourne et al., 1839 (Abbey Life 401). This print shows Primrose Hill when it was suburban. The incline from King's Cross to Primrose Hill was considered too steep for an engine to pull a train, so a stationary engine was initially used and housed in the this vast building.
