Christian was, a year after this engraving was made, elected as King of Norway, a title that he lost following the defeat of Norway's army by Prince Carl (Marshal Bernadotte of Sweden) and the subsequent Convention of Moss.As King he failed to live up to the liberal beliefs of his younger years and is chiefly remembered for his continued support of astronomy in Denmark. |
