Signed and dated within the plate. Published in an edition of 100. James Tissot ( 1836 - 1902) was a French painter who moved from Paris to London in 1871. His etchings are amongst the finest of the nineteenth century, using the contrast of light and dark to great effect. His output was small and like his paintings depicted the social life of the upper middle-class in and around London. He served on the council of the Royal Society of Painter Etchers.
