Imao Keinen (1845-1924) was a Japanese painter and woodblock designer most known for his Kacho-e works, natural history subjects. Part of the shin-hanga (new prints) movement, Keinen taught painting at the Kyoto School of Painting and after publication of his seminal Keinen Kachō Gafu album, a collection of Japanese bird and plant portraits illustrating over 160 different birds, he became a member of the Art Committee of the Imperial Court and in 1919 a member of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts. Condition: 'Made in Japan' stamp to verso. |
