Inscription below image reads: Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his window/ being open in his chamber towards Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day,/ and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. Daniel.6 Ver:10. John Sturt (1658–1730) was an English engraver, apprenticed at seventeen to Robert White, in whose manner he engraved a number of small portraits as frontispieces for books. He is best-known as an engraver of calligraphy, producing 48 plates for John Ayres' A Tutor to Penmanship or the Writing Master (1697-8). He also taught with Bernard Lens II at Christ's Hospital. Condition: Trimmed within the plate, tipped to album page, vertical crease to left hand side fo sheet. |
