An early nineteenth century map of the Orkney Islands, most likely engraved for one of the numerous volumes of the Neueste Länder- und Völkerkunde, a German primer featuring articles of geographical and ethnographic interest. The individual islands are outlined in hand colour, and principal towns and settlements are picked out in red. In the top left corner, the title is enclosed in a simple box cartouche. Condition: Vertical and horizontal folds, as issued. Trimmed to plate mark on left margin, as issued. |
