Signed, inscribed and dated in plate by artist, and signed in pencil below plate. Percy Thomas (1846-1922) painter and etcher of landscapes, genre and portraits. Born in London, he studied at the Royal Academy and under Whistler as his first pupil. He exhibited at the R.A. from 1867 and was elected to the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1881. Condition: trimmed to plate mark, 20mm tear on the upper right edge just affecting image. |
