Notes Francis Cotes ( 1726 - 1770).Portrait painter; born London 1726, d. there 1770; elder brother of miniaturist Samuel Cotes; apprenticed to George Knapton in early 1740s; began using and preparing crayons; first pastels date from 1747 and serious use of oils from 1757; after 1746 draperies in portraits often by Peter Toms, who also collaborated with Reynolds; SA 1760-68, then foundation member RA; from 1765 living in Cavendish Square; earliest portrait of royal family dates 1767; published short writing on pastel technique in European Magazine 1797; pupil was John Russell.

D P Pariset (1740 - after 1783).Engraver born in Lyons, and a pupil of Demarteau. Came to London in 1769, and worked for Ryland and later Falconet on a series of portraits of members of the RA. In an advertisement in the 'Mercure de France' of October 1783 (p.142) he announced that he had worked for ten years in England, when he 'a coopéré à quantité d'estampes qui ont fait la réputation des graveurs titulaires' (ie he had worked as an understrapper) and acquired expertise in 'la manière Anglaise'. His prints were being handled by his younger daughter.
