A half length portrait of Gaston Duc d'Orléans turned to right wearing armour and collar, with battle scene in the background right and swagged curtain in the background left all surrounded by a decorative hexagonal boarder with overlapping oak leaves and decorative bosses. Gaston Duc d'Orléans (April 24, 1608 - February 2, 1660) was the third son of King Henry IV of France and Maria de Médici and the eldest surviving brother of King Louis XIII of France. Balthasar Moncornet (c.1600 - 1668) was a French tapissier, engraver, and publisher, working primarily in France. He was a specialist in ornamental prints. Condition: Some light soiling in margins and small loss in the left margin, old repairs on verso. |
