Notes A half length portrait of Henrietta Anne Stuart, Duchess D'Orlèans, turned slightly to left looking at the viewer, her hair upswept and with ringlets, wearing a pearl necklace and a low cut off the shoulder dress adorned with jewels, pearls and ribbons, all in an oval frame with ribbons.

Henrietta Anne Stuart, Duchess D'Orlèans (June 16, 1644 - July 4, 1670) the youngest daughter of King Charles I and Henrietta Maria. Carried to France by her mother, Henrietta Anne was educated in the France and lived with her mother in the French Court. She married Philippe de France in March 1661. Henriettia Anne was instrumental in helping to negotiate the Secret Treaty of Dover. She was allegedly poisoned in 1670.

Nicolas de Larmessin I (1632-1694) was a French printmaker and engraver. He was the elder brother of Nicholas de Larmessin II. In 1654, he married the daughter of the engraver, printmaker, and publisher Pierre Bertrand whose stock he took over on Bertrand's death, in about 1578. Larmessin I specialised in portraits.
