A portrait of Jacques, Seigneur de Villamont (c. 1560-c. 1625), at the age of 38. He was a French nobleman and knight, who set out for the Holy Land from Brittany in 1588. He wrote a travel-book about his pilgrimage through Lyon, Rome, Naples, Venice, Cyprus, Egypt and Syria. The book was very popular is France, where it was reprinted over ten times between 1595 and 1609. Condition: Trimmed to image, in oval shape. |
