Titled in pencil. An original pen and ink drawing from Jonathan Brett's 'The Pocket Museum' collection. Based on objects from the Pitt Rivers Museum's vast collection, the drawings invoke a sense of the 'Wunderkammer' or 'cabinet of curiosities' experienced when exploring the museum's collection. Looking through the cabinets at the museum, Brett noticed an interesting item nestling amongst the many different artefacts on display. Why did this single object stand out? With every visit to the museum a different object caught his eye, making a new discovery every time. The Pocket Museum started out as a couple of sketches which has now developed into a collection of over 140 drawings. |
