Artist Signature: Morikawa Chikashige Publisher: Komori Sojiro An unusual triptych depicting multiple actors with text above describing their fame, status, and salaries. The fifteen actors appear on a vibrant red background, each dressed as a character they were most known for playing. Chikashige Morikawa (fl.1869-1880) was a pupil of Kunichika Toyohara (1835–1900) and specialised in Yakusha-e and Kabuki, or theatre prints. Condition: Time toning to sheets. Some creasing to corners. |
