Artist Signature: Yosai Nobukazu Artists Seal: Yosai Publisher: Higuchi Gintaro A traditional ikebana, or flowering arranging, themed triptych depicting figures arranging flowers and feeding chickens in the country. The scene shows a country house surrounded by a large lake and gardens, in the foreground a beauty is knelt arranging chrysanthemums in a vase. To the right a beauty is stood watching two small children and another beauty feeding some chickens. Nobukazu Yosai (Watanabe) (1874 - 1944) was a Japanese woodblock artist active during the late 19th and early 20th century. He was a student of Chikanobu Yoshu (1838-1912), Chikanobu's influence visible in Nobukazu's prints of bijin-ga and traditional domestic scenes and customs. He produced a large number of battle themed triptychs during the Sino-Japanese (1894 - 1895) and Russo-Japanese wars (1904 - 1905) which he was most known for. Condition: Creasing and toning to sheets. |
