Notes Proof impression, before title, of this fine orientalist scene of dancers performing before an oriental prince. The prince sits, reclining, with his aid approaching from the right, a black servant in the background stares towards the second dancer playing a tambourine.

Michel Honoré Bounieu (1740–1814) was a French painter and mezzotint engraver. Born in Marseilles, he was a member of the Academy at Paris and regularly exhibited his works at the Salon. Towards the end of the 18th century he was the keeper of prints at the Bibliothèque Nationale and later professor of drawing at the École des Ponts-et-Chaussées.
