A reversed copy of a print titled La Contre-Révolution dediée au cul-de-sac des noirs (1792). Satire against the aristocratic and clerical émigré army: a ragged column marches along the Rhine towards a rock labelled 'Constitution Française'. Lettered with a key below the image numbered 1 to 11, 21,31,41. Plate 47, originally published as series of 80 pamphlet parts over the years 1834-1837. These works by Ernest Jaime are considered significant for being one of the earliest publications dedicated to the history of French humour. It was researched by Jaime, the editor and engraver, who compiled and reproduced prints of French satire and caricatures from the 14th century to the end of the Napoleonic era. |
