A depiction of the Virgin Mary breast-feeding the Christ Child, surrounded by trees and a hilly landscape. Agostino Carracci (1557-1602) was an Italian painter and printmaker. He was born in Bologna, but travelled and worked throughout Italy in Rome, Venice, Parma, Cremona and Milan. Girolama Giovanni Frezza or Ioannes Hieronymus Frezza (1671-c.1758) was an Italian printmaker, mainly making prints after paintings. He studied with Arnold van Westerhout in Rome. Inscription to sheet, underneath image, written in ink: "Parmagiano" Condition: Trimmed to image, with bottom margin missing. Light stain top top right of sheet and, small foxing stain to top left. Tipped to an album page with a pen sketched ground plan on verso. |
