Notes A proof impression, large half length portrait of Maria Lady Broughton. Directed to the left, her right arm is bent and resting on a slab, her head resting on her right hand. She wears a soft turban on her head, a part of it draped over her right shoulder, a low cut dress tied at the waist, a jewel pins up her right sleeve.

Lady Maria (nee Wicker) Broughton (-1785) was the daughter of John Wicker of Horsham, Sussex and wife of Rev. Sir Thomas Brought, Baronet.

John Finlayson (c. 1730- c. 1776) British mezzotinter based in London with known prints dating between 1765-1773. After his death Finlayson's plates were purchased by Boydell.

Francis Cotes (1726 - 1770) was a British portrait painter who was born, lived, and worked London. He was the elder brother of miniaturist Samuel Cotes. Francis apprenticed to George Knapton in early 1740s. He was one of the pioneers of English pastel painting. Cotes was also a founding member of the Royal Academy in 1768.

Condition: A 'Lady Broughton' manuscript title pasted to title area below image, glue stains to the right and below of paper. Some foxing and toning to sheet. Some minor creasing to sheet. Some minor rubbing to top right printed area.
