A bust portrait of Maurice of Nassau, turned to the left, wearing an armour with lace collar and sash. From "Illustrium Hollandiae & Westfrisiae Ordinum Alma Academia Leidensis" published in 1614. Inscription to oval border: "IE MAINTIENDR" Maurice of Nassau, Prince of Orange (1567 - 1625) succeeded his father, William I 'the Silent', in 1585, taking the role of Stadtholder of all provinces within the Dutch Republic, except for Friesland. Condition: Excellent, clear impression. Minor ink offset to plate. Trimmed close to the plate mark. Latin letterpress on verso. |
