Joseph Wright of Derby (1734 - 1797) was an English landscape and portrait painter. Born in Derby, he received early training with Thomas Hudson in London between 1773 and 1775. He worked in Italy 1775-7; and in Bath 1775-7. From 1777 he lived in Derby, but exhibited regularly in London.
