A view of Oxford Castle, from the moor. This etching was first published in 1880 as part of Andrew Lang's Oxford: Brief historical and descriptive notes. Alfred Louis Brunet-Debaines (1845-1939) was a French painter, draughtsman and printmaker (original and reproductive). Born in Le Havre, Brunet-Debaines began his studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, in 1863. At this time he learned etching techniques under such masters as Maxime Lalanne and Jules Jacquemart. Brunet-Debaines exhibited his first etchings at the Paris Salon in 1866. A member of the Société des Aquafortistes, he worked mostly in England and Scotland between 1872-86 before moving to Hyères in 1886. He was awarded the Gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition of 1889. Condition: Good impression with wide margins. |
