Alfred Riocreux (1820-1912) was a French botanical artist. He was often compared to the prolific Sctottish botanical artist Walter Hood Fitch (1817-1892). Trained by his father, Riocreux displayed a talent for drawing and painting from a young age. It was through the botanist Adolphe Théodore Brongniart (1801-76), that Riocreux became interested in depicting botanical subjects, which led to him providing the illustrations for Joseph Decaisne's 'Le Jardin Fruitier du Muséum'. |
