From George Louis Le Clerc's A Natural History, featuring Henry Augustus Chambers' A History of Birds, Fishes, Reptiles, and Insects (London: Thomas Kelly & Co., 1866). Moses Harris (b.1730) was a British engraver and entomologist active in the eighteenth century. Based at White House, Princes Row, Whitechapel, he designed and etched plates for various natural history publications. His own work included Natural System of Colours (1766), The Aurelian or Natural History of English Insects (1766 - 1775), The English Lepidoptera, or, the Aurelian's Pocket Companion (1775), and An Exposition of English Insects (1776 - 80). His son was the painter and printmaker John Harris Senior (1767 - 1832). |
