Artist signature: Gakusui Artist seal: Seal lower left. Publisher: Watanabe Shozaburo Gakusui Ide (1899-1982) was born in Funatsumura, Minami-Tsurun gun, Yamanashi Prefecture, he specialised in Kacho-e prints and painting. After studying art at Nippon University College of Art, he studied Japanese traditional painting nihonga. Ide lived in China between 1929 and 1949, where he set up a Japanese painting school in Shanghai. Upon his return Ide started his career in woodblock prints working with Shin Hanga publisher Shozaburo Watanabe designing prints for Watanabe Publishing Company and specialising kacho-e prints of birds and flowers. Ide is especially known for his prints of herons and cranes. Condition: Excellent. Woodblock print is tipped along its top edge only to original 7 x 4.5-inch blank card. |
