A half-length portrait of Queen Elizabeth I in an oval, directed towards right, facing towards and looking to front, hair and dress adorned with jewels, earring, necklace, ruff, veil at back of head. Elizabeth I (7 September 1533 – 24 March 1603) was Queen of England and Ireland from 17 November 1558 until her death. John Simon (c. 1675 - 1751) was a mezzotinter. He was born in Normandy and trained Paris as a line engraver. Simon fled to England as a Huguenot c.1700 and it here where became a mezzotinter. Simon produced early work for Edward Coope, but by c.1720 published most plates himself. He ceased work after 1742 and his plates were sold in November 1761.
