A decorative map of Morocco and part of present-day Algeria. Mountain ranges, forests and notable buildings have been included. Title in an ornate cartouche. From 'L'Afrique', one section of his great work, 'Cartes Générales de Toutes les Parties du Monde', published between 1654 and 1676. Nicholas Sanson d'Abbeville (1600 - 1667) was a French engraver and cartographer, and Geographer to Louis XIII and Louis XIV. As well as world maps, he also issued a series of historic maps to accompany popular classical texts like Caesar's Gallic Wars. After his death, he was succeeded by his sons Adrien and Guillaume, who frequently sign their work Sanson fils. Condition: Light time toning and paper wear. Two central vertical folds as issued. |
