Jean-Jacques de Boissieu (1736-1810) was a French draughtsman, etcher and engraver. Born in Lyon, he studied at the Ecole Gratuite de Dessin, but was largely self-taught. Boissieu's landscape prints were very popular in his lifetime, with wide sale in Paris and Germany. After a trip to Italy in the retinue of the ambassador Louis Alexandre, Duc de la Rochefoucauld d'Enville, Boissieu produced many etchings of the Roman countryside. He also produced topographical views of the Netherlands and of his home town, Lyon. His pupils included Louis Nicolas Philippe Auguste de Forbin, and his nephew Claude Victor de Boissieu.
