An uncommon aquatint of Sheffield. Inscription reads: To His Grace The Duke of Norfolk, &c. &c. &c. By Permission This Plate is most respectfully dedicated by His Grace's obliged and Obedient Servant. T. C. Hofland. Frederick Christian Lewis (1781 - 1856) was a reproductive printmaker, specialising in aquatints and reproducing drawings. He initially worked for Ottley, and then for Thomas Lawrence for several years after. Lewis was also a painter and exhibited at the RA. Thomas Christopher Hofland (1777 - 1843) was an English artist, primarily painting topographical subjects. |
