John Corrie Carter (December 29, 1839- June 5, 1927) was educated at Cambridge. He was a barrister and lawyer and a talented sportsman. He was a coxswain for fours and eights for the Cambridge First Trinity Boat Club at the Henley Royal Regatta in 1861. His crew won the four chief races: the Grand Challenge Cup, the Stewards' Challenge Cup, the Ladies' Challenge Plate and the Visitors' Challenge Cup.
