An early eighteenth century miniature map of Sweden & Norway, as well as adjoining parts of Denmark, Finland, Moscovia (Russia), Livonia (Estonia and Latvia), Lithuania, and Prussia and Pomerania (Poland), engraved by Morden for Patrick Gorden's 'Geography Anatomiz'd: or, the Geographical Grammar.' National and regional borders are outlined in hand colour, and principal cities and towns are picked out in red. A boxed key in the bottom right corner contains the names of 8 further cities not plotted fully because of the map's small scale. Robert Morden (c. 1650-1703) was an English bookseller and publisher, as well as an accomplished geographer and cartographer. He is best known for a series of maps issued in 1695 in Gibson's revised edition of Camden's Brittannia,' engraved by Sutton Nichols. Condition: Vertical fold as issued. Minor time toning to edges of sheet. Blank on verso. |
