Etched 'Monk' to lower left corner. A view of the eastern end of Broad Street with the Clarendon building to the left and the Sheldonian Theatre, surrounded by the Emperor Heads, at the centre. William Monk (1863-1937) was a painter and etcher of architectural scenes and landscapes. He was born born in Chester and studied at Antwerp Academy. He exhibited at the RA RE and IS and the Society of Graver Printers in Colour. Elected ARE 1894 and RE 1899. He executed subjects in Venice and New York, and he founded and worked with The London Almanac for 35 years. Condition: Strong impression. |
