Etched 'Monk' to the lower right corner. A view of Broad Street looking west featuring the Clarendon building in the foreground to the left. The image for the Oxford almanack of 1905. William Monk (1863-1937) was a painter and etcher of architectural scenes and landscapes. He was born born in Chester and studied at Antwerp Academy. He exhibited at the RA RE and IS and the Society of Graver Printers in Colour. Elected ARE 1894 and RE 1899. He executed subjects in Venice and New York, and he founded and worked with The London Almanac for 35 years. Condition: Light toning and foxing to sheet. Almanac calendar below trimmed. |
