From 'The Portfolio' (1874). William Wise was a British engraver active between 1823 and 1876. He worked in Oxford and London, and engraved works after Buron, Mantegna and James Ward. William Blake Richmond (1842-1921) was a British painter and sculptor. He was the son of the Shoreham Ancient and portraitist George Richmond (1809-1896). A Royal Academician, he continued to exhibit at the R.A. summer exhibition until 1916. Upon his death, his family gave a number of drawings to the British Museum, and other works to Manchester City Art Gallery. Condition: Small mark in lower margin of sheet, not affecting image. |
