Plate 28 from 'Specimens of Art'. The print shows three figures stood in a dark, cellar like room being used for smuggling. There are several barrels and boxes to the left, with the waters edge meeting the shore in the foreground. Frederick James Havell (1801-1840) was a British printmaker, illustrator, and photographer who worked in London. He was the brother of the landscape painter William Havell. Condition: Foxing and toning to sheet, binding holes to left side of sheet, some creasing to sheet corners. |
