A detailed view of the city from Hinksey, published in John Whessell's Oxford Delineated; or A Sketch of the History and Antiquities and a General Topographical Description of That Celebrated University and City: Illustrated by A Series of Views. Published just before Ingram's Memorials, Whessel's was a slightly less ambitious work, though it contained twenty two steel engravings of colleges as well as text elucidating their histories. John Whessell (c.1760-1806) was an Oxford-based etcher, engraver and mezzotinter. He often published his own work. |
