From N. P. Willis' American Scenery; or, Land, Lake and River. John Cousen (1804 - 1880) was an English landscape engraver. Born in Bradford, Yorkshire, he was apprenticed to the animal engraver John Scott (1774 - 1827). Cousen exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1863 and 1864. He was the brother of the engraver and etcher Charles Cousen (c. 1819 - 1889). William Henry Bartlett (1809 - 1854) was a British landscape artist famous for his views of all parts of the world, which appeared in a series of travel volumes issued in the nineteenth century. |
