Signature: Keinen Publisher: Shima Art Company A strong impression of Keinen's Two Egrets on a Snowy Branch. The scene shows two bright white egrets in the centre, huddled together perched on snow covered branches. More snow covered willow branches frame the scene at the sides, contrasting against the dark grey of the background. Part of the shin-hanga (new prints) movement, Keinen taught painting at the Kyoto School of Painting and after publication of his seminal Keinen Kachō Gafu album, a collection of Japanese bird and plant portraits illustrating over 160 different birds, he became a member of the Art Committee of the Imperial Court and in 1919 a member of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts.
