From a series A Voyage around Great Britain by William Daniell (1769-1837). This series was his most well-known project to which he worked on during the years 1813 - 1825 and published eight volumes. The artist conceived of an ambitious plan to travel around the coastline of Britain while producing an illustrated work of the voyage, recording the people, places, towns and villages. He had travelled from Land's End to John O' Groats via the west coast, then back to Land's End via the east. William Daniell, an engraver and painter, belonged to a family of English artists. He was a member of the Royal Academy and exhibited there from 1795 to 1838. The artist was raised by his uncle, Thomas Daniell, also a painter and engraver, and lived with him in India from 1784-94. He worked with him on publications based on his travels. In 1795 he settled in London, where he remained for the rest of his life and collaborated with Thomas on A Voyage Round Great Britain. |
