A topographical view of the countryside, surrounding hills, and sea from Pallas' Travels through the Southern Provinces of the Russian Empire, in the Years 1793 and 1794. The book was an English translation of Pallas' German narrative of his explorations in the Crimea, the Caspian, the Black Sea, and the Dnieper valley. Peter Simon Pallas (1741-1811) was a Prussian explorer, travel writer, ethnographer, biologist, and botanist, whose zoological investigations brought him under the patronage of Catherine the Great, who had him installed as a professor at the St Petersburg Academy of Sciences. He is best known for a pair of travel narratives in the central and southern Russian provinces. Thomas Medland (c.1765-1833) was a British engraver and draughtsman. He was also landscape engraver to the Prince of Wales. Christian Gottlieb Geissler (1729-1814) was a German-Swiss engraver, painter and printmaker. Condition: Vertical folds as issued. |
