Plate 27 of Bourne's Drawings of the London & Birmingham Railway, London, Bourne et al., 1839 (Abbey Life 401). Now the M1 passes a few furlongs behind the viewer and the A5, the Roman Watling Street, passes between the railway and Weedon Barracks, see on the right. The proximity of the Barracks to the line was of great use in 1848 during the Chartist Riots, when two companies of troops were stationed there. Framed. |
