Inscription reads: 'Gaze not so much upon the outward grace/And faire proportions of learnd Fenners face,/That's but ye Shaddow of him, tis within/The greatest glory of his Spirit doth Shine/There trace his graces and no longer look/Upon his picture but peruse his Book.' William Fenner (1600–1640) was an English Puritan divine. Pennington 1403 Condition: Trimmed within plate mark and tipped to album page. Discolouration to sheet. Old handwriting in ink in lower margin not affecting image. |
