Pencil text on verso: Winchester the main street. Of this state only 2 printed one for himself - one for me - ("according to plan" 1896. R. J. 1918!) Initials attributed to Thomas' brother, Ralph. Percy Thomas (1844-1922) was a close member of Whistler's circle. He was his first pupil, the son of one of the patrons, Sargeant Ralph Thomas and younger brother of Edmund Thomas, who published Whistler's "Thames Set". A third brother, Ralph, was a partner of Whistler's solicitor. he appears mainly to have done figure subjects, but his topography is excellent. |
