A small scale print showing three scenarios happening at Christmas time. The first shows a group of young children playing a game, one of the group is blindfolded whilst the others run away. The second scene shows a young man leaning towards a young woman, the woman leaning away, rebuffing his advances. The third scene shows a group of older gentlemen playing cards and gambling around a table. The scenes are surrounded by wreaths of holly and the title text. John Leech (1817-1864) was a satirical draughtsman and illustrator. Leech was born and worked in London. He worked for "Punch" and illustrated Dicken's A Christmas Carol. Condition: Some staining and toning to sheet. |
